Project Type:
Bridges Substructure
Westgate Tunnel Project: South Portal Outbound Vent Structure
As part of the broader South Portal works, our team successfully delivered key structural concrete elements for the Vent Structure – South Portal Outbound. This critical infrastructure supports tunnel ventilation and emergency systems, requiring a high standard of accuracy, coordination, and structural integrity.
FRP Roof Slab
Supplied and installed formwork, reinforcement, and concrete for the roof slab, meeting strict dimensional and load bearing requirements.
FRP Vent Stacks (jump form)
Utilised jump form systems to construct vertical vent stacks, ensuring high-quality finishes and safe construction sequencing.
FRP Concrete Pedestals
Delivered precision formed pedestals to support mechanical and structural components within the vent facility.
This project highlights our ability to execute complex vertical and overhead concrete structures with efficiency and precision, contributing to the operational safety and functionality of major tunnel infrastructure.
Westgate Tunnel Project: South Portal Concrete Work
Our team successfully delivered extensive formwork, reinforcement, and concrete placement (FRP) works across multiple critical infrastructure components at the Southern Portal.
Base Slab
FRP concrete base slab completed to structural specification.
Roof Deck Slab (CH50700 to CH50850)
Precision executed FRP slab supporting overhead structural loads.
Smoke Duct and Vent Room Slabs
Custom FRP concrete slabs formed for integrated mechanical systems.
Insitu Concrete Walls
Single sided and retaining walls formed and poured with complex reinforcement detailing.
West Gate Tunnel Project (Bridges Substructure)
As part of the landmark West Gate Tunnel Project, our team was contracted to deliver high-precision formwork, reinforcement, and concrete placement (FRP) works across multiple bridge substructures. This major infrastructure development showcases our capacity to manage complex, large-scale concreting works in high-performance environments.
Bridges BR60 & BR72
Steel Portal Infill Works. Executed intricate FRP infill around steel portals, ensuring structural continuity and durability.
Bridges 61, 70, 72 & 73
Pier extensions, bearing pedestals & elastomeric/pod bearings installation. Completed high precision FRP works for vertical and support elements, including the installation of specialist bearing systems.
Bridges BR80, 84 & 86
FRP Pile caps, piers, crossheads & pedestals. Full delivery of major bridge support elements, highlighting our capacity in forming complex geometries and maintaining structural integrity.
Bridge 82
Comprehensive Substructure Package. Delivered FRP works for abutments, pile caps, piers, crossheads, and pedestals. Retaining Structures, completed FRP retaining walls, capping beams, and insitu walls, integrating seamlessly with the surrounding earthworks and drainage systems.
Bridge 83
Barrier pile caps and barrier installation. Completed FRP works to specification, ensuring safety-critical barrier integrity and alignment.
Bridge 84
FRP abutments, bearing pedestals and ramp slab. We delivered robust concrete structures with accurate geometry to support bridge transitions and load bearing systems.
This project demonstrates our team's ability to deliver structurally critical works to the highest standards, supporting the successful delivery of one of Victoria’s most significant transport infrastructure projects.
WEST GATE TUNNEL PROJECT SOUTHERN PORTAL
CPB JOHN HOLLAND JOINT VENTURE
Speedpro are in the process of completing the FRP scope of the South Portal Outbound scope for the West Gate Tunnel project. This complex project includes completing single sided walls up to 20 meters in height.
Forming of almost 7,000m² of single sided walls.
Forming and pouring of almost 6,000m² of base slabs.
Forming and pouring of 4,500m² of smoke duct and roof slabs.
In total we will have poured more than 17,000m³ of concrete.
WEST GATE TUNNEL PROJECT – NORTHERN PORTAL
CPB JOHN HOLLAND JOINT VENTURE
Speedpro completed the initial works on the main Northern Portal at the West Gate Tunnel Project, which needed to be finished to enable the TBM’s to be lowered into the dive structure and assembled prior to commencing their journeys under the West Gate freeway. These works commenced in March 2020 and involved multiple crews working staggered 24/7 shifts, installing over 2,000T of reinforcement and 13,000 m3 of concrete in a little over 6 weeks, and importantly ahead of program much to the delight of the client.
Scope of works:
Place and finish 4,500m² of blinding concrete.
6 weeks of 24/7 works.
Steel fix 2,100 tons of reinforcement.
Form, place and finish approximately 4,500m² of structural walls and slabs up to 2m deep — a total of over 9,100m³.
Form 900m² of single sided wall formwork at 1m thick, 7m high — steel fix and pour.
Form, steel fix and pour head wall at 41m wide, 21m high and 2.4m thick.
